Kalam began as a tool for one person we love, as ALS took their speech — a way to keep a thought from staying trapped inside. We are sharing it in case it helps yours.

Could Kalam work for us?
Kalam may help when speaking has become difficult, tiring or unreliable, or is no longer possible. It works best when the person can reliably select items on the board by touch, keyboard, or a single switch.
Kalam does not currently support eye gaze. If the access methods above no longer work reliably, there are other communication options, including eye-gaze systems.
What you need
Use Kalam on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. A 10-inch tablet or larger gives the board the most room, but it works on a phone held upright.
Single-switch scanning is built in. On a phone or a tablet held upright, the switch is right on the screen — nothing extra to buy. It can also be used by touch if the buttons can be selected reliably, with a keyboard (using Space or Enter), or with a Bluetooth control or adaptive switch setup.
