Free printable communication boards

Kalam runs on a screen, and screens run out of battery. These are the paper version — free to print, no signup, nothing to install. Print one before you need it and keep it near the bed.

Alphabet letter board

The 26 letters, grouped exactly as they are on Kalam’s spelling screen — so learning one teaches the other. Works for English, French, and any language written in the Latin alphabet.

Arabic letter board

All 28 Arabic letters. The order is not alphabetical: it is arranged so a partner reaches the common letters sooner, which makes spelling out loud faster.

The board is entirely in Arabic. The Kalam app does not speak Arabic yet — this board does not need it, and does not depend on it.

How to use it

  • The person indicates a row number. You then read the letters across that row until they signal the one they mean. Letter by letter, they spell.
  • Agree on the signal first — a blink, a look up, a small sound. Anything you can both repeat reliably.
  • Print at 100% (do not “fit to page”) on A4 or Letter, landscape. It prints fine in black and white: the row numbers, not the colours, are what identify a row.
  • Slide it into a plastic sleeve or laminate it — it will be handled with wet hands.
  • Mount it where the person can see it without turning their head, and where you can point at it without blocking their view.

Free to use, copy, and share

Print them, photocopy them, hand them out at a clinic, put them in a folder for families. No permission needed and no attribution required. They are free because nobody should be unable to say “I can’t breathe” for want of a piece of paper.
